A magician, a creator of a wonderland, a universe of joy, and tamer of forms … Jacky Coville, a ceramist par excellence.
Are you in the enchanted and colourful world of the Wizard of Oz, or bewitched by the mythical totems of Easter Island, or again are you strolling in the Garden of Eden, enveloped in happiness and joy? Jacky Coville’s art is full of it, both tender and turgid at the same time.
Mischievous, facetious and poetically lustful are his adorable animals with their so well-suited names … Little dreamer cat, chubby cat, happy frog, little wolf, wolf-nanny goat, banana dragon, laughing monkey, whistling monkey … a superb world of fantasy.
From Tex Avery to Fernand Léger
Anyone would think his characters had popped out of a Tex Avery cartoon. Jacky Coville’s ceramic characters exude love and all the fantasy of life. His universe is one of dreams, of wonder, of extravagantly colourful creatures flaunting radiant Arlequin’s cloaks, and even sometimes of fear in the form of childhood monsters. For over forty years, Jacky Coville has been creating his characters in his workshop in Biot, bought from Fernand Léger’s ceramist. A wonderful treatise on the human condition!
