Madame Angot's Daughter
Nice Opera
A worthy heir to Jacques Offenbach, the composer Charles Lecocq signs with Madame Angot's Daughter a virtuoso work of joy and mischief. Seduced by the irresistible vitality of the score, Richard Brunel brought Clairette Angot and her friends from Les Halles back on stage. To bring the romantic and political plot back to life, the director of the Lyon Opera decided to transpose the action to the Paris of May 1968, where artistic excitement and political protest were in full swing. Libertarian slogans and references to the New Wave bring a breath of youth to the work, reinvigorated by the musical direction of conductor Chloé Dufresne.
