Focus on three gardens in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez

What if you took advantage of the nice days to take a vegetable stroll in the gardens of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez? From Sainte-Maxime to Rayol-Canadel via Gassin, here are our three favorites to go green!

Domaine du Rayol, the Mediterranean Garden

The Domaine du Rayol, located in Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer, is a protected natural area of 20 hectares, belonging to the Conservatoire du Littoral. Designed by the landscape designer Gilles Clément, the Mediterranean Garden invites, as its name suggests, to a journey through the Mediterranean landscapes of the world with breathtaking views of the big blue. In summer, the estate offers various activities such as exhibitions, guided tours, workshops and musical evenings. You can also enjoy the Café des Jardiniers, a specialized bookstore and an ecological nursery. Thematic visits allow you to discover the garden in a unique way, at nightfall on July 19, August 16, September 20, or to discover “A century of history at the Rayol estate” thanks to the visits scheduled for July 24, 7, 14, 14, 28 August and 4 September. Also, this summer, the Domaine du Rayol takes you on a journey around the Mediterranean, through “Odyssea — Possible Garden”, an exhibition by the Personne Collective, led by Laurent Derobert, author and artistic director, Gaele Flao, visual artist, and Gaïa Bergelin, seed archivist.

Open every day, all year round, in July and August from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Admission is paid.

The Myrtles Botanical Garden

Facing the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, the Jardin des Myrtes is a veritable botanical oasis. Explore its alleys and discover more than 60 Mediterranean plants, including some ancient palm trees. Numerous acclimatized plants, such as the dwarf palm and the Chilean coconut palm, will amaze young and old alike. You can also admire the typical shrubs of our hills. Myrtle: a shrub producing edible black berries with a resinous taste, arbutus, or even cistus: recognizable by its narrow and viscous leaves, and its white or pink flowers. Among the trees, the umbrella pine and the holm oak dominate the landscape, not to mention the cork oak exploited for its corks. For the enjoyment of the youngest, a playground is available. Perfect for strolling around a bit longer...!

Open every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from the April 1st to September 30. Admission is free.

Boulevard Jean Moulin, 83120 Sainte-Maxime.

The remarkable botanical garden Hardy-Denonain

A true treasure of Provençal and Mediterranean nature, the L'Hardy-Denonain botanical garden in Gassin, acquired in 1973 by Germaine L'Hardy-Denonain, has been labeled a “Remarkable Garden” since 2009. Spread over 2,500 m², this lush setting offers an immersion in biodiversity with its plants from the Massif des Maures and its acclimatized species. The visit is free and Madame L'Hardy-Halos will be happy to guide you through this vegetable paradise. For the record, the people of Gassins cultivated these lands for a long time, giving life to the banks that now host this botanical garden. Fruit trees, vegetables and Mediterranean plants coexist harmoniously, offering a unique natural spectacle... This preserved place, cultivated without pesticides, is a real haven of peace where nature flourishes freely. An essential visit for garden enthusiasts and nature lovers!

Open from Tuesday to Friday (except Thursday) from 10 to 12 am and from 2 to 6 pm. Monday and Saturday by appointment. Free entry.
