La Cave Bianchi
A stone's throw from the Nice Opera is the oldest wine cellar in Southern France, with a listed facade, created in 1860, the date when the County of Nice was attached to France by Napoleon III. The Saint-Dominique cloister had built this winery here, because the Paillon, a river that flows into the Bay of Angels, passed just below and gave it an ideal temperature for storing wines. At its head for nearly 30 years, Franck Obadia, whose family produces the great Bandol wine from Domaine Bunan in La Cadière d'Azur, his sommelier Laurent Paoli, Valérie Balestri and “Kiki” are his sommelier. The team offers 700 references and specializes in great rare wines (Romanée Conti, Clos des Lambrays, Domaine Dujac, Mouton Rothschild, Château Margaux...) that can be enjoyed in one of the lounges or in the furnished crypt.
Good to know
- Every evening, La Cave Bianchi is transformed into a wine bar to taste the best bottles and tapas on the slate: charcuteries, cheeses, sardines in oil...
- Opposite, an 18th century vaulted room, dressed in the former counter of the famous luxury hotel Negresco in Nice, welcomes groups for themed tastings and evenings.
- Among the winery's famous customers, Franck Obadia advised a 1927 Château d'Yquem to Brad Pitt who was celebrating the birth of his children in Nice, sold several bottles to Johnny Depp, and organized Keanu Reeves' birthday!
