Once upon a time... the Grace Diamond

This extremely rare pink diamond was first worn by H.S.H. Princess Charlene of Monaco in 2022 at the Princess Grace Awards in New York.

Rarer than white diamonds, coloured diamonds are natural gems from way down under. According to the Gemological Institute of America, only 1 of 100,000 diamonds can claim to be coloured diamonds. Their colour is due to gases present in the soil where they were formed, billions of years ago. The presence of Hydrogen accounts for red, pink or violet diamonds. The finest specimens come from the Argyle mine in Australia, now exhausted.

The purplish-pink “Stella” diamond (1.79 carats) was one of its last, acquired in 2021 by Burgundy Diamonds Mines which launched Maison Mazerea a year later to revitalize “Haute Diamanterie.” This one actively supports the Princess Grace Foundation, created in 1982 by Prince Rainier III. Renamed “Grace”, the diamond was then set by jeweller Lorenz Bäumer on a necklace worn by H.S.H. Princess Charlene of Monaco in 2022 at the Princess Grace Awards in New York.

Peter Ravenscroft, founder and CEO of Maison Mazerea, plans to present the Grace Diamond in coming years in a series of one-off creations “to pay lasting tribute to both the Princess and the stone's historic importance.
