Stephen Shames was twenty when studying at Berkeley, he came into contact with the beginnings of what would be the Black Panther Party, composed largely of women activists such as Gloria Abernethy, Kathleen Cleaver, Angela Davis or Ericka Huggins... From then on, the photographer accompanied the story of this black American emancipation movement until its dissolution.
